In-depth picks

The three I recommend most often

Honest notes on who each one suits, who it doesn't, and how I'd use it.

"Use it on muscle, never on bone or bruises."Clinic rule #1
Soft tissue release · $$$

Compact percussion massager

The one massage gun I'd buy for home. It's quiet enough to use during TV time and light enough that your arm won't tire before your calves loosen.

"Clients overdo these. Use 60–90 seconds per muscle on a low setting. You're telling the muscle it's safe to relax, not fighting it."— How I use it

Good for

  • Tight calves & quads after runs
  • Glutes from long sitting
  • Warming up before training

Skip if

  • You bruise easily or take blood thinners
  • The area is acutely injured
  • You mainly need neck relief
product shot — adjustable slant board, 5 angles
"Stand on it while the kettle boils."Habit stacking
Stretching & flexibility · $$

Adjustable slant board

The most underrated tool on this site. Tight calves are behind a lot of heel, knee and even lower back complaints, and this lets you stretch them without any effort.

"Start at the lowest angle for 1–2 minutes a day. Go up a notch each week. For plantar heel pain, this does more than most insoles."— How I use it

Good for

  • Plantar fasciitis & heel pain
  • Tight calves and Achilles
  • Knees-over-toes training

Skip if

  • You have an acute Achilles injury
  • Balance is currently unsteady
product shot — memory-foam lumbar cushion on office chair
"Belt height, not mid-back."Placement tip
Back, neck & posture · $

Memory-foam lumbar cushion

Most office chairs leave a gap behind the lower back, so you slump into it. A good cushion fills that gap and costs less than one massage.

"It's support, not a fix. Pair it with getting up every 30–45 minutes and you'll notice the difference within a week."— How I use it

Good for

  • Desk-related lower back ache
  • Long drives and flights
  • Sofa-working

Skip if

  • Your chair already has adjustable lumbar
  • Pain runs down the leg (see a pro)

Who's recommending this

Hands-on therapist. Strength coach. Gear sceptic.

I spend my days releasing tight backs and hips, then helping clients build the strength to stop them tightening up again. The question I hear most is "what should I buy for home?"

This site is my answer. I only list things I've used myself or watched clients use, and I'll tell you when the cheap one is good enough.

Our promiseNo gimmicks. No fads. Just proven principles and real results that last.
TestedUsed for weeks in clinic or at home before it's listed.
HonestEvery pick shows who it's not for, too.
IndependentBrands can't pay for a spot. Commissions never change a ranking.
